If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need. Marcus Tullius Cicero Stop hugging that library. No wait, my mistake, I forgot that it’s Library Lovers Month- and it seems to have come at just the right time as many local libraries are struggling during the economic downturn. So why love your local library? Libraries are a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life; they offer security and peace and quiet. They are also a place where you can focus surrounded by likeminded people with the desire to acquire knowledge. History of Library Lovers’ Month It’s important to understand that not everything is available on the internet (yet), libraries can have vast digital stores ...

Lakers' Russell Westbrook passes Gary Payton for 10th place on NBA's all-time assists list

Monday night's matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets lost most of its luster with the absences of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant and Ben Simmons due to their respective injuries. But Russell Westbrook and Kyrie Irving were ready to go, and something interesting might happen whenever those two are on the floor. On this night it was Westbrook who earned the accolades with a historic assist . Late in the first half, he moved past Hall of Famer Gary Payton and into 10th place on the NBA 's all -time assists list with 8,967 dimes for his career. Westbrook is one of three active players in the top 10, along with Chris Paul (third) and teammate LeBron James (sixth).  As the clock ticked under one minute to play in the half, Westbrook caught the ball on the perimeter and used an extremely subtle fake to get Royce O'Neale off of his feet. With an open lane to the rim ahead of hi...

Lakers, LeBron James stunned after not getting game-altering foul vs. Celtics; league confirms missed call

The Los Angeles Lakers aren't getting along with NBA officials this season. Los Angeles ranks third in the league in restricted area field goal attempts, but just 19th in clutch free-throw attempts per minute. For whatever reason, the offense that scores more in the paint than any other can't seem to get calls at the end of Game s. And against the Celtics Saturday night in Boston, the situation hit a new low. Up three with four seconds to go, Jaylen Brown made a layup that cut the Lakers' lead to one. OK, no problem. That still left the Lakers with the ball and the lead ... right? Wrong. Seemingly out of nowhere, Patrick Beverley was called for one of the latest fouls you'll ever see. Take a look: Brown made the free throw. The Lakers called timeout. They drew up a play for James to attack the rim. He gets into the paint and puts up a layup. Jayson Tatum clearly whacks him on the arm. Once again,...

Fragging, Pwning, And Other Words Gamers Never Hear Online Anymore

If you've been gaming for a while, there will be words and terms you previously heard and perhaps even used on a regular basis that have fallen by the wayside. Things you've probably not thought about for a while that fell out of favor without you even realizing. If some of those words spring to mind, now is the time to share them with others on a thread unearthing gaming's forgotten phrases. Started by a user called Uncle at Nintendo on ResetEra, they kicked things off by pointing out you don't really hear people use the word fragging anymore when it comes to Game s. Previously a word exclaimed by someone who had just picked up a kill, quite a few of the replies have also selected fragging as their forgotten gaming word of choice. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY RELATED: A FromSoftware Noob’s Guide To Elden Ring Perhaps the most popular answer to Uncle at Nintendo's question is pwn. Definitely not a word that remains in regular circulati...

Comparing the two cargo aircraft, the C-17 and C-130

Image
First delivered in 1991, the C-17 Globemaster III is the senior (by a long shot) of these two cargo aircraft – by a lot. The U.S. Air Force declared the C-17 operationally ready in 1995, and ordered a total inventory of 223 C-17s from its producer, Boeing. The C-130 Hercules, on the other hand, was first delivered in 1956, almost 40 years before the C-17 was a reality. Many variations of the C-130 exist, as well as a few that no longer exist. The C-130A and C-130B were ordered in a batch of 219 in 1956, but by the time August of 1962 rolled around, Lockheed Martin was already on to the C-130E (of which the USAF ordered over 300). Active duty locations for the C-17 are Travis AFB, California; Dover AFB, Delaware; Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington; Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina; and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey. Also, Pacific Air Forces operates C-17s from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. Activ...

Disney Dreamlight Valley Announces Multiplayer In 2023 Roadmap

Disney revealed its roadmap for Dreamlight Valley this week, showing off a lot of fun additions the Game will be getting in the coming months and teasing arrivals later in the year. Topping the bill when it comes to the most intriguing reveal was just one word, multiplayer. No explanation as to how exactly that will be implemented, but apparently, it's coming soon. Well, that might depend on how you define the word soon. As you can see in the image below (thanks, Euro Game r), the multiplayer promise is one of the last things on the current Dreamlight Valley agenda. Long before that, players will be welcoming a new character into the valley. Encanto's Mirabel Madrigal who will be joining Dreamlight Valley next month. That's presumably referring to Olaf from Frozen. If yo...

Rights group files suit in Germany against Myanmar military

A human rights group and 16 individuals have filed a criminal complaint in Germany seeking punishment of Myanmar’s generals for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity BANGKOK -- A human rights group and 16 people from Myanmar have filed a criminal complaint in Germany seeking punishment of Myanmar's generals for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity they alleged were committed in that country after their 2021 government takeover and during a 2017 crackdown on Muslim Rohingya. Fortify Rights, a complainant in the case announced Tuesday in Bangkok, noted “the individuals responsible for crimes related to both have yet to be held accountable.” The federal prosecutor’s office in Germany, where the legal complaint was filed last Friday, declined to comment on it. The office would have to decide whether to file an indictment before the matter can go to court, a potentially lengthy process. The actions of Myanmar's generals also are under investigation by the Int...

Final Fantasy 14 Players Are Sharing Horror Stories About The Toxic Housing Market

Final Fantasy 14 players have been stuck in a state of per Pet ual disarray and disbelief over the housing market ever since the feature was implemented, but the situation seems to have taken a dramatic turn as fans of the franchise have been sharing all sorts of horror stories on social media. While some have been complaining about the sky high prices or the lottery system, others have been coming forward with tall tales about trolls. The user on Twitter going by the name of Hisoka_Ophion for example recently posted a screenshot showing an Estate Profile with a rather demeaning message in the greeting. The post wound up going viral on the social media platform. “Wasn’t here to buy,” the greeting notes. “Just wanted to see the pool, but your Free Company threatened me relentlessly. Are you laughing now? Proudly paying this subscription to let this rot.” THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY RELATED: Final Fantasy 14 Could Learn From Final Fan...

Sections of Balkan river become floating garbage dump

Tons of waste dumped in poorly regulated riverside landfills or directly into the waterways that flow across three countries end up accumulating in the Drina River in eastern Bosnia during wet weather VISEGRAD, Bosnia-Herzegovina -- Tons of waste dumped in poorly regulated river side landfills or directly into the waterways that flow across three countries end up accumulating behind a trash barrier in the Drina River in eastern Bosnia during the wet weather of winter and early spring. This week, the barrier once again became the outer edge of a massive floating waste dump crammed with plastic bottles, rusty barrels, used tires, household appliances, driftwood and other garbage picked up by the river from its tributaries. The river fencing installed by a Bosnian hydroelectric plant, a few kilometers upstream from its dam near Visegrad, has turned the city into an unwilling regional waste site, local environmental activists complain. Heavy rain and unseasonably warm weather over the past...

CBP seeing rise in attempts to bring eggs across southwest border

Image
Amid the rising cost of eggs, CBP says it's seeing an increase in people trying to bring eggs across the southwest border. U.S. Customs and Border Protection said it has seen an increase in eggs being brought across the border -- a practice it said is technically illegal. The price of eggs has been skyrocketing -- up 60% in December the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says, with the average price of a dozen at $4.25. Much of that increase is due to widespread bird flu -- and CBP said people are attempting to transport eggs "because they are significantly less expensive in Mexico than the U.S." "The San Diego Field Office has recently noticed an increase in the number of eggs intercepted at our ports of entry," Director of Field Operations for the San Diego Sector, Jennifer De La O said. "As a reminder, uncooked eggs are prohibited entry from Mexico into the U.S. Failure to declare agriculture items can result in penalties of up to $10,000." U.S. Cus...

Celtics' Malcolm Brogdon drives toward Sixth Man of the Year -- and perhaps a title -- in 'perfect situation'

Malcolm Brogdon made history in 2017 when he became the first second-round pick to win Rookie of the Year, doing so largely as a bench player with the Milwaukee Bucks. Now, in his first season with the Boston Celtics, after an injury-riddled, three-year stint running the show for the Indiana Pacers, he's returned to a reserve role, and it's an arrangement that's working beautifully.  Brogdon, who is playing some of the most efficient basketball of his career, could earn a couple of pieces of hardware this spring. He is one of the frontrunners for Sixth Man of the Year , and the Celtics, who boast the best record in the league, are the odds-on favorite to win the title.  "This is a perfect situation for the Celtics and for him," said Pacers coach Rick Carlisle. "He's an elite player off the bench in this league. Really, it's like having a sixth starting player. They're very fo...
