Canada issues warning for LGBTQ travelers in the United States

Image
Canada has issued a warning for LGBTQ travelers in the United States based on laws and policies that may impact members of the community. Canada's Travel advisory for visitors to the United States has been updated to warn LGBTQ Travel ers about laws and policies that may affect the community. "Some states have enacted laws and policies that may affect 2SLGBTQI+ persons," the Travel advisory states. "Check relevant state and local laws." The '2S' abbreviation refers to Two-Spirit, a term used in Indigenous and First Nations communities to describe people who are not straight or cisgender. The Travel advisory page links to a separate page of Travel advice for LGBTQ residents, encouraging them to research and follow the laws of the country they are visiting, "even if these laws infringe on your human rights." Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland addressed the new Travel advisory Tuesday, backing the decision of Global Affairs Canada, which

ART! Plein Air Pawtucket art event captures essence of city

Image
Back by popular demand, Plein Air Pawtucket returns to Pawtucket September 2-3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The one-of-a-kind event will allow enthusiasts to explore the work of talented artists as they paint throughout the historic Slater Mill Park, a new focus this year instead of being spread throughout downtown. Artists will work en plein air – a style of painting that leaves the four walls of the studio behind, allowing the artist to experience painting and drawing in the open air while incorporating the ever-changing natural light, color and movement into their work. “I’m very excited to bring this event back to the Pawtucket Arts Festival weekend,” said Nick Paciorek , Pawtucket artist and the event ’s creator. “The Slater Mill and its surrounding park and Blackstone river offer such a rich source of inspiration for painters while offering the public a glimpse of the artists’ process.” Attendees can picnic in the park, enjoy the scenery, listen to live

The Brontë sisters, Alice Bradley Sheldon, Mary Ann Evans and many others can be counted among those who lived in a society where their stance as women caused them to hide behind pen names. Another one of these important women was Margaret Wolfe Hungerford: The Duchess. Even as a young child in County Cork, Ireland, Margaret enj

Northwestern Wildcats Futures Odds 2023, Win Totals & Season Predictions

Pat Fitzgerald was fired in July amid hazing allegations within the program and was replaced with David Braun, an interim head coach that won 2 national titles at North Dakota State as a defensive coordinator. Braun has no FBS coaching experience, so he brought in Skip Holtz to be his special assistant and help with game preparation as well as day-to-day operations. Having Holtz will be resourceful for Braun, but he faces a tall task of leading this program following the off-the-field turmoil and just a 1-win season in 2022.   You can bet on these NCAAF picks with FanDuel Sports book, which has the best odds available and a great new customer offer where you can bet just $5 and get $200 in bonus bets! Man City 1-0 Newcastle: Player ratings as Alvarez stunner earns win for Cityzens

Image
Manchester City had Julian Alvarez to thank on Saturday evening as the Argentine's gorgeous strike secured a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United. Both sides struggled to showcase their best in front of goal and it always seemed like it would need something particularly special to make the difference, and Alvarez provided that midway through the first half with a fierce strike from range. City dominated the early possession but Newcastle were happy to sit back and limit the space available to Pep Guardiola's side. It took about 20 minutes for Newcastle to show anything at the other end of the field but clear-cut chances were at a real premium for both sides and it took a moment of true magic from Alvarez to put City ahead. With City's first shot on target, the Argentina international rifled home an excellent effort from the edge of the box which was simply too powerful for Nick Pope in the Newcastle net. Erling Haaland dragged wide as the first half ticked on, with the Game f

Rico Lewis signs new long-term Man City contract

Manchester City full-back Rico Lewis has signed a new long-term contract with the club that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2028. Lewis made his senior City debut last August at the age of just 17 and went on to feature in 24 first-team games by the end of the historic treble season. The teenager, who doesn’t turn 19 until November, also started City’s Premier League opener away at Burnley last Friday. "It’s been an unbelievable year for me and now to sign this contract is a dream come true," said Lewis, who hails from Bury, north Manchester. "As a City fan I can remember watching us winning trophies when I was young and it’s the only place I’ve wanted to be. To know I’m going to be here until 2028 is fantastic and I can’t wait to keep working and keep improving. "Everyone at the club has been so amazing, starting with the academy where I learnt so much and I am hugely grateful for everything they did. The fans have been brilliant too and

Premier League top scorers 2023/24: Will Erling Haaland break his own record?

Image
Erling Haaland's record-breaking debut season in the Premier League was underpinned by a burning obsession for the sport. Pep Guardiola is hardly a relaxed individual and spoke in reverential tones when he gushed: "Haaland lives 24 hours for his profession, his work, his passion, what he loves." In the immediate aftermath of the Champions League final, the greatest success of Haaland's career, he was already plotting a route of improvement. "From when I signed from [Borussia] Dortmund to now there's such a big difference from so many things," he said. "From how I think after games, how I think before games, how I motivate myself, how I speak to others. "You get experience through people and on the pitch. I agree - I can develop so much more." After a record-breaking 52 goals across all competitions, including a Premier League-high 36, it's a frightening thought that Haaland could get even better in 2023/24. Yet, with that tunnel-vision
